Tuscan Lakes students benefit from top schools; new construction

(League City, TX – November 2008)                    Tuscan Lakes students are about to enjoy the newest and most technologically advanced facilities Dickinson Independent School District has to offer, with a $31 million junior high campus opening in January and $54 million in renovations and expansions set for the high school. McAdams Junior High School will open at its new site at Hughes Road and Highway 3 in January, with students slated to move in the following month. The 230,000-square-foot facility has high school-style amenities, with two levels, a large auditorium with a performance stage, an expansive library, and specialized labs for both science and computers as well as state-of-the-art band, choir and drama facilities.  Facilities also boast customized instructional spaces to accommodate a comprehensive instructional program, with cutting-edge technology installations in each instructional space. At a cost of more than $31 million, the facility was designed with input from district and school administrators, as well as McAdams teachers and students. In the planning stages now are renovations to Dickinson High School, including a $4.2 million science lab addition. Also on tap are renovations to fine and performing arts areas including the auditorium, band hall, choir, art rooms, dance and drama. A new baseball stadium will replace the existing field and a new gym and tennis facilities are in the works. Career and Technology programs will see facility renovations and an additional career exploration facility is in the planning stages. Existing infrastructure such as classrooms, hallways, dining areas, etc., will see renovation work, as well. Already in use at the high school is the new Sam Vitanza Stadium, which features a state-of-the-art video scoreboard system measuring 55 feet high by 36 feet wide. The largest in the Houston area, the scoreboard has video replay capabilities as well as static and electronic sponsorship opportunities. In addition to the impressive scoreboard, the stadium’s press box is the tallest point in the entire community. In addition to Dickinson High School and McAdams Junior High, Tuscan Lakes students zoned to Dickinson ISD schools also attend Dunbar Middle School, a fifth- and sixth-grade campus that has earned a Recognized rating from the Texas Education Agency, and Silbernagel Elementary, an Exemplary-rated campus that is one of only 13 campuses statewide to be recognized as a Distinguished Progress Campus under the U.S. Department of Education’s “No Child Left Behind” guidelines. Tuscan Lakes also is within the Clear Creek ISD, where students attend Exemplary-rated Goforth Elementary; League City Intermediate, which holds a Recognized rating; and Clear Creek High School.
